1.   Summary

This product bulletin is to update the field about the release of the new Brocade 7500 switch. This switch is now available in the NetApp Price Book and Customer Edge tool.

2.   What’s New

This product bulletin informs the field about the availability to source the Brocade 7500 product from Network Appliance. The switch has been supported for some time, but is now available in the NetApp Price Book and CE tool. This enables the field to offer complete NetApp/Brocade solutions, sourcing the entire SAN solution through the NetApp team. This marks a large step forward in expanding the NetApp and Brocade partnership and demonstrates the commitment to offering our customers a complete portfolio of products to meet all of their SAN needs.

The 7500 switch combines FC routing, Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP). and   FC switching capabilities into a single platform. The 7500 is a single-box enclosure of the FR4-18i blade for the 48000 director, which is also available from NetApp. The 7500 can be positioned as a product to help customer bridge SAN fabrics together without having to “merge” the fabrics. It can also allow long-distance extension and connectivity by integrating FC over IP capabilities. As companies continue to expand their geographical presence, these capabilities become paramount to an integrated SAN solution.

The 7500 combines the industry’s first 4Gbit/sec Fibre Channel routing capability with powerful hardware-assisted traffic forwarding for FCIP. The switch features 16 Fibre Channel ports and two 1 Gigabit Ethernet ports, delivering high performance to run storage applications at line-rate speed with either protocol. By integrating these services in a single platform, the 7500 offers a wide range of benefits for inter-SAN connectivity, including long-distance SAN extension, greater resource sharing (either locally or across geographical areas), and simplified management.
